Tell stories that matter. Shape the voice of ABS.

Mawqif is a fully student-run news platform for Amman Baccalaureate School. We’re looking for committed writers and editors who are ready to report, investigate, and publish responsible journalism for our community.

You’ll be taken to a secure Microsoft Form. Please read this page carefully before applying.

What is Mawqif?

A student-run newsroom covering local school life, Jordan, and global issues – all produced, edited, and managed by ABS students.

Under the hood, it’s powered by a professional-style dashboard for writers and editors, but on the surface it’s a clean public news site anyone can read.

Choose your role

Both roles are essential to how Mawqif runs. Read the expectations before picking one.

Writer

You pitch, research, and write the stories.

  • Pitch articles on school life, Jordan, and global events with a clear angle.
  • Draft and revise articles in the Mawqif dashboard using our templates.
  • Respond to editor feedback and meet agreed deadlines.
  • Fact-check sources and verify information before submission.
  • Work with photography, design, and data (if needed) to support your piece.

Editor

You shape the final voice and quality of Mawqif.

  • Review incoming drafts and give clear, specific inline comments.
  • Check structure, clarity, and consistency with Mawqif’s style and values.
  • Coordinate with writers on revisions and deadlines.
  • Approve or request changes before publication in the dashboard.
  • Help plan coverage and maintain a balanced mix of topics.

How the application works

4

Onboarding & first article

Accepted applicants will be invited to a short onboarding session covering the dashboard, expectations, and your first article or editing assignment.

Frequently asked questions

If you still have questions after reading this, feel free to reach out.

Please choose the one that best matches your strengths for this cycle. In special cases, you may help with both, but we want each person to have one main role.

That’s okay. We care more about your willingness to learn, your ideas, and your commitment. Use the form to show how you think, even if you haven’t written for a publication before.

It depends on the role and on our publishing schedule. Expect roughly 2–4 hours per article for writers, and around 2–3 hours per week for editors during active weeks.

Yes, but please communicate early. We expect professionalism: if you need a break, talk to the team so we can plan around it and support you.
